Magnus Langseth

Biography:

Magnus Langseth is a Professor at the Department of Structural Engineering at NTNU. At the same time he is Director of SFI CASA – Centre for Research-based Innovation at NTNU for the period 2015-2023.Professor Langseth is a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters and the Norwegian Academy of Technical Sciences. He was awarded the "Médaille Albert Portevin", Société Francaise de Métallurgie et de Matériaux in 2005. In 2009 he was appointed Honorary Doctor at the Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambrésis.He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Impact Engineering and sits on the editorial boards of the Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures and Ships and Offshore Structures.

The research of Professor Langseth is primarily related to impact and crashworthiness of aluminium and high-strength steel structures as well as lightweight ballistic protection. Included here is the development of test facilities for material testing at elevated rates of strain as well as facilities for impact and crashworthiness testing of components and structures.


François Hild

Biography:

François Hild is a CNRS Research Professor at the Laboratory of Mechanics and Technology in Cachan (France).  He has advised more than 30 Ph.D. students, and has coauthored about 250 journal papers.  He serves as associate technical editor of the Experimental Mechanics journal, and as deputy editor of the Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design.  He also sits on the editorial boards of Optics and Lasers in Engineering, Instrumentation, Mesures et Métrologie.  He received from SEM the Hetényi Award in 2010, and the Lazan Award in 2014. In 2017, he was awarded the silver medal of CNRS.

Dr. Hild’s current areas of research include experimental mechanics, 2D and 3D computer vision, and mechanics of materials (in particular when loaded at elevated strain rates).


Tongxi YU

Professor Emeritus of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Senior Advisor to VP-RG at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Biography:

Prof. Tongxi Yu is the Professor Emeritus of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Senior Advisor to VP-RG at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Previously he was Chair Professor and Head of the Dept of Mech Eng, Associate Vice-President (Research & Development), Founding Dean of Fok Ying Tung Graduate School, and Acting Dean of Engineering at HKUST.

Prof. Yu got his PhD and ScD from Cambridge. He has published 3 scientific monographs, 4 textbooks for graduate students, 380 journal papers, 230 international conference papers and 8 patents. Prof. Yu is the Co-Editor of International Journal of Mechanical Sciences and former Associate Editor of International Journal of Impact Engineering. He is Fellow of ASME, Fellow of IMechE, Fellow of HKIE and Honorary member of the International Society of Impact Engineering.


Hidetoshi Kobayashi

Prof. Kobayashi is the Professor of Department of Mechanical Science and Bioengineering, Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University Previously. He got PhD from Reading University in 1987.Subsequently, he worked as a Research Associate at Dept. of Aeronautical Eng.,National Defense Academy and became an Associate Professor in 1988 at Dept. of Mechanical Systems Eng., Muroran Institute of Technology.In the year 2003, he worked as a professor of Dept. of Mechanical Science and Bioengineering, Osaka University.

Prof. Kobayashi’s doctoral dissertation title is ‘Shear Localization and Fracture in Torsion of Metals.In recent years, he has mainly focused on the relationship between the mechanical behavior of materials and factors such as loading rate and temperature.




Huh Hoon

Title: Ductile fracture criterion of metals based on mechanism maps at a wide range of strain rates

Prof. Hoon Huh is a fellow member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award at the University of Michigan in 1984 and the Technology Innovation Award at KAIST in 2012. He was also awarded several awards of Outstanding Paper Award, Distinguished Scholar Award, Academic Award, Contribution Award and Most Cited Article Award.

His research interests include Ductile fracture criterion of metals at a wide range of strain rates, Material characterization of steels, metals, polymers at intermediate and high strain rates, Crashworthiness of vehicles and Sheet metal forming. He was the director of ADD HIPIE Research Center and is the director of High Speed Material Properties Data Center, National Center for Standard Reference Data. He has performed many researches on high strain-rate material properties, crashworthiness and auto-body design, sheet metal forming, failure analysis and impact analysis for dynamic deformation behavior and structural design.


Ezio CADONI

Title: Behaviour of structural steels under extreme conditions of high strain rates and elevated temeperature

Ezio Cadoni is a professor of University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland.He studied at the faculty of engineering of the University of Cagliari and received his degree in Civil Engineering in July 1990. He subsequently developed his PhD studies at the Structural Engineering Department of the Politecnico di Torino. In March 1994 he started to Joint Research Centre of the European Commission as Post-Doc fellow and subsequently as scientific officer.In 2000 he was appointed lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland and worked as Professor since June 2004.

His teaching covers the fundamentals of structural mechanics (statics, theory of structures, masonry, and strength of materials). In research he concentrates on the dynamic behavior of materials, measurement by Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry, anchors, durability, impact behavior of structures. He chaired several sessions of international conferences and has been member of several technical committees. He is reviewer of International Journals.He is author of more than hundred papers in reviewed International journals and conferences. Presently he is the President of the Dymat association.


Guoxing LU

Professor Guoxing Lu is Chair, Department of Mechanical and Product Design Engineering, Swinburne University of Technology. He received his PhD from Cambridge University and continued to work at Cambridge as a postdoctoral fellow for one year. He also held faculty position at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Guoxing Lu’s research interests are in impact mechanics and mechanical behavior of new materials and energy absorption characteristics.  He has published over 200 papers in international journals, with a total of citations of about 5000 and an H-index of 36, from GoogleScholar. He co-authored with Prof TX Yu a monograph “Energy Absorption of Structures and Materials” in 2003, with its Chinese version in 2006, the only monograph in this field.

Guoxing  Lu serves as an Associate Editor of International Journal of Impact Engineering and a member of editorial board of  International Journal of Mechanical Sciences and three other journals.


Lanhong DAI

Professor in Stake Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Title: Shear banding in high speed machining

Lanhong Dai is a Professor in Stake Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics (LNM),  Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained his PhD in Solid Mechanics from Institute of Mechanics in 1996. Subsequently, he worked as a Postdoctoral at Peking University and became an associate professor in 1998 and professor in 2001. From 2005 to 2006, he worked as a visiting professor at Harvard University in USA.

He is now a Director of the Academic Degrees Committee of the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Professor Dai is the members of Editor of Chinese Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Advances in Mechanics and Explosion and Shock Waves etc. He is winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Hundred-Talent Program of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His current research interests include shear band, plastic flow and fracture in metallic glasses, high entropy alloys, and other advanced alloys.


Jifeng XU

Title: Analysis of composite damage induced by impact and its effect in civil aircraft design

Biography:

Jifeng Xu, Ph.D., Assistant Chief Designer of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), Deputy Chief Designer and Senior Technical Fellow at Beijing Aeronautical Science and Technology Research Institute of COMAC. Currently Dr. Xu is the Director of the CR929 Wide-body Aircraft Wing Development Program of COMAC. He is the Chairman of the Stability Committee of Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI), USA, Vice-Chairman of the Composite Material Committee of COMAC, and the past Chairman of the Advanced Materials and Structures Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He also holds Professorship at Peking University, Tsinghua University and Beihang University.

His research interests include design and analysis of composite aircraft, and he is one of the founders of the peridynamic modeling for composite structures. He has done many researches on the damage mechanisms of composites, failure of composites under high and low velocity impact and crashworthiness of composite aircraft.



Tao SUO

Professor in the School of Aeronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU)

Title: Design of aircraft structures for anti-bird impact via the building-block approach

Biography :

Suo Tao is a Professor in the School of Aeronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in China. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Flight Vehicle Design and Engineering, and Master’s and PhD in Solid Mechanics from NPU in 2009. Subsequently, he worked as a lecturer at NPU and became an Associate Professor in 2010 and Professor in 2013. In the year 2012, he worked as a visiting professor at The Johns Hopkins University in USA. His current research interests include mechanical behavior of advanced materials, dynamic behavior and failure evolution of materials under impact loading, and analysis, design and verification of aircraft structures under impact loading. He coauthored more than 90 papers in peer reviewed international journals. His research accomplishments are recognized through the Young Yangtze River Scholar from Chinese Ministry of Education, New Century Excellent Talent Award from Chinese Ministry of Education, Award for Excellent Young Scholar from National Science Foundation of China. He is now a committeeman of Experimental Mechanics Committee in Chinese Society of Mechanics, committeeman of Structure and Strength in Chinese Society of Aeronautics, and editors of four Chinese journals.
